I can't think of a better way to start the Help Me, Rhonda blog than with a point and a little bow to Seth Godin and his Advice for real estate agents (quit now!) At first I wasn't sure if he was just still miffed by his 67 story (Realtor induced) descent in Atlanta or if he was serious [quit!] and this blog might have to be retitled, Help Me! Rhonda.
Alas Seth delivers. He delivers an RX for Realtors, a regimen if you will. It's not a pill though ~ it's a process ~ and it"s not hard but it's not easy either. [but the side effects make you stronger]
Allow me to, I should digress -- I am Michael Gibbons, yes Rhonda's hubby. I have been working with Rhonda on what Seth calls Plan B [the no quitting/whining option] in fact we may even be a half step ahead! I have been helping Rhonda with her assets. As Seth points out there are basically two:
The first is to become the expert, the second is to build permission. Or be(come) the absolute best at something and then work very hard to earn permission to talk about you! This is what I am helping Rhonda do.
I can't tell you [yet] what Rhonda is best at in the real estate world -- patience, details and follow up for a start. According to Seth, It turns out (according to the NAR) that 91% of all Realtors never contact the buyer or the seller of a home after the closing. Not once. I do know none of Rhonda's clients are or ever will be in that 91%
Rhonda and I both read Purple Cow ~ so we know this ~ it's never about YOU. It is about working very hard and genuinely to become a purple cow, to become something remarkable and then it's still not about you talking about you, its all about other people remarking about you!
